Why don't Americans revolt?

Zach (@zach840) 9 years ago

Why are Americans not revolting right now? It’s clear we are all pissed off but no one wants to do anything except argue pettily. A few examples of what pisses me off: In Raleigh, North Carolina people were threatened with arrest because they were feeding homeless people biscuits. It has since been referred to as biscuit-gate. Cute huh? Also in my home state, abortion clinics have almost all been effectively shut down due to a sneaky ride–on to a motorcycle helmet bill. Recently school boards have banned the book “Invisible Man”, and of course our states terrible view on homosexuality. Not to mention larger problems, Syria, gun control, student loans, and not to mention environmental issues (which really should be on top of the list, after all without mother earth, we are nothing). I realize everyone has their own views on these topics but it is clear to me that our government does not have our interests, well-being and views in mind. They have their own agenda which I believe is pretty clear. I know just about everyone on this site will agree with me when I say that we are all one. Why do we as Americans (Those of us who are) not stand up in serious protest? Why do we not revolt? Seriously any opinion is welcome! My personal wish is kind of like Bill Hicks dream. One day I hope we can solve our environmental issues, feed, clothe, shelter and educate all. Helping the mentally ill, providing healthcare, etc. Hopefully after we solve those serious issues we will send a human to space and on the side of their shuttle instead of the initials of one country it will say Earth.

Because a revolution has to start in the mind first. The shift from our current paradigm to a new way of living is in its infant stages. Be patient. Rome wasn’t built in a day. You’ve watched too many movies and TV shows and so you think the only way to change society is to revolt, riot, and protest.

It’s like George Carlin said: “People always complain about the politicians. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don’t fall from the sky. They come from American families, American homes, American churches and American universities. If you have a bunch of dumb, ignorant citizens, you’re going to have a bunch of dumb, ignorant politicians.”

That’s why it’s so important to change yourself and to be the change you want to see in the world. People changing themselves is the only way the world has ever changed. People ARE waking up and changing, but it’s a slow process, and they have to discover it for themselves. You can’t force anyone else to change. Just be patient. Spread knowledge. Spread awareness. Even if we don’t see the change in our lifetime, we have an obligation to future generations to lay the ground work for change for them.

People don’t care, they live in their own bubbles and comfort zones. I read a quote on here, I don’t remember where, We know how difficult it is to change ourselves, imagine trying to change someone else. everyone is well aware, they just have no courage to stand up for the right thing. Just like when kids are getting bullied, usually no one stands up for the guy. What are we going to do.. quit our jobs and write letters to the congress?
We as the PEOPLE feel we have no power. When the people are filled with disconnecting television shows like The Big Bang Theory they have no time to think about the deepest issues our world is facing because they themselves can’t face their own fears.
MY PERSONAL WAY of handling this is changing my view of the world , you know.. be the change.. The more energy you put into rationalizing with the way the world works the more you lose yourself in the hows and whys. Tis sad. But it’s the dance we’ve all been dancing in America since Industrialization.

It’s true, a ‘revolution’ in the old, physical, embodied sense probably won’t happen. This war is being fought inside our minds.
But more and more of us are winning :)

@zach840, Haha, go on any street corner in your city and preach the truth and see how far you get. People will laugh at you, will scrutinize you, and maybe some will listen but then walk on and move on with their days. I would if i’d get anywhere with it, otherwise I’m just another crackpot filled with conspiracy theories and hysterical paranoia so I make use of myself, to myself, to better myself mentally. The fact that you’re awake to the fact of the lies means that you’re winning the battle on your home front. If we revolted we’d get our asses kicked and the government would stomp us out like fucking timber. . . Research the FEMA ‘civil protection units’, the ammo buyout, etc. They’re preparing, they know we’re pissed and the conflict in syria will escalate and likely set it off.

Best you can do for your brethren is keep calm and love all, it’s just the start.

@zach840, I’ve definately spent hours thinking about that and how it would look. Honestly rather than riot we could just all consecutively disagree and say nothing . Just disregard the government exists . The police are people too they and they’re aren’t enough cops to arrest the world anyway. The only issue with all of this . Is somebody has to make decisions . Unless we had a universal voting chart of rules we follow and abide by on our own independence and responsibility ? Either way we need a change and is say its on its way. But alot of people are going nuts on the way :p calm before the storm right now is what I feel . I’m already seeing alot . Even musical artists coming out and rapping for example of ascending and how we’re all one and what not . I also make music about it , I see people waking up in daily conversations , but only in small increments at random times . Its flowing in and out of consciousness for the unawakened . The awareness that is ! Haha I logged in just to say something about this one sweet post bro

I prefer it remain like this, it would be useless to revolt. At the end of the day the same people that have money in mind will stay where their at. Nothing will change.

Having a 9-5 job where you get paid a huge sum of money in comparison to average living standards, while being recorded by the government is a great scale above being gassed by your neighbors with syrine, threatened to death if you don’t change religions, beaten or raped for your gender, beaten or raped for your color, and so on.

in all honesty, our government is sick, but people don’t realize what they have.

@ijesuschrist, Doesn’t our government represent us though on a world basis, well our government wants to be the band aid for the governments that can’t handle their own , while the people in our land just play in our play pens and act like parents are discussing things in the other room… we don’t know the full story . But I do understand what you are saying…

@zach840, “Why are Americans not revolting right now?” a more clear answer: people are filled with dogmatic beliefs, shallow optimism, and are not responsive enough to all the suffering in the world

@zach840, People who are too comfy to care, too healthy to risk danger, too “intellectual” to join an objective cause, too much highly held standards to agree on one thing, too entitled to reflect, and too stubborn to realize that this is all self-inflicting to the world as a whole. We are selfish.

In other words, we are full of shit and we know it.

@chodebalm, True, and i am aware that the revolution must start with the individuals mind and i try not to have any delusions that this this is an overnight thing. I also know that rioting is not the only way to change things I’ve just been wondering why i haven’t seen other people (where i live) even talking about the stuff that goes on.

@bemoody, Haha thanks for the reply! One of my favorite songs is reflection by tool, “and we will come to find that we are all mind.” I wish we could disregard the governments existence but as long as it is around and stuck in its archaic ways and views nothing will change for us. I do think more people are coming to this idea that we are all one but we are still a long time away from having success on a national scale, in terms of being awakened.

@ijesuschrist, This is true we don’t have it as bad as Syrian citizens do by any means. But we do have our own problems and some of the problems concern other countries and even the world. We still have problems that need to be fixed, just because we don’t have it as bad as other countries does not mean we can’t change what is wrong.

Because we’re still sheep, waiting for that something to make us become wolves.

@alexa, Your comment is short but fucking full of meaning. Well put. We are the key to transform ourselves into wolves, but we prefer to wait for something else, maybe Superman coming out of nowhere to save us. Sad.

Haven’t read any of the comments, but basically it comes down to this.

People are fucking dumb. Plain and simple as that. That covers about 60% of the the population (obviously a made up percentage).

Everybody who isn’t a mouth breathing heathen has just enough comfort that we don’t want to risk it in order to protect the rights that we are slowly losing. There are obvious exceptions to this. Occupy movement, etc. But those lost a lot of traction because of the mouth breathing heathens who were just there to be a part of something. It was them who were constantly interviewed, and those interviews were shown to the world. Painting the picture that it was just a bunch of angry stupid people who were fighting just to fight and not for a real cause. Those movements need a leader. They need a Malcolm X, a Ghandi, a Martin Luther King. One very intelligent person to be a spokesperson for the cause.

The revolution has to be a slow one. If you force it, people’s hearts will not be in it and the cause will die. People who are forced to fight will not fight as hard or as valiantly as those who choose to fight. You must let it slowly build into an unstoppable force.

The revolution is coming. Wait patiently and prepare.

I’m pretty sure that’s a made up quote by the way. I only heard it through hearsay though. I couldn’t find if it’s true or not. Sucks having google blocked on your work computer.

The biggest problem is that who have a divided nation against itself. Republican vs Democrats, Liberals vs Conservatives, Atheist vs theist. We are so split up that if any violent revolt were to happen we would be considered terrorist and wiped out by the military and it would all be for naught. its hard to revolt when half the nation is against you.

Fernando (68) (@fercgomes) 9 years ago ago

@morningwoods, You’re right about the leader thing. In Brazil there was tons of manifestations, hundreds of thousands of people on the streets protesting against corruption. But they didn’t had any REAL goal. ‘End of corruption’ That’s what they wanted. Empty as it sounds like. We got some bus fares reduced (not actually, there was some tax cuts that would have happened anyway), and that´s all. The good thing is that many people realized how wicked the mainstream media is and they started to boycott it.

@morningwoods, Damn the workplace censoring! I’ve seen it here and there and it may be made up but i think it is a good point anyways.
