why is it "bad" to be an atheist?

 Anonymous (@) 7 years, 9 months ago

Why does society say that atheism is bad?

this is insinuated in many sources. from the media, through to even medicine (they tell us to be spiritual and meditate all the while).

Non-theism is not required to be:

– Contributory (yes, all of us non-theists live off the state, right?)
– Immoral (morals don’t exist, however we all again are serial killers, eh?)
– Are morose and not happy (well since happiness is completely subjective, then it lends to this, eh?)

So, why is it bad to be an atheist, and not give a shit about spiritually-based concepts? This is despite how “society and the media” want people to be? ;)

Who says it’s bad? Some all-knowing, all-powerful, supreme ruler with a measuring stick of morale?

Even if popular opinion says it’s “bad” to be an atheist (which it doesn’t), it wouldn’t mean it’s the truth.

Understand that “bad” is generally a subjective term. It’s an opinion – nothing more, and move on with your day. =)

so subjective, yet you preach universal love?

I know good and bad don’t exist, it doesn’t mean anything. the world is a complete free for all, I’d think most in life acknowledge that?

I agree – but it doesn’t give anyone the right to disrespect others or interfere with their “path.” Good and bad are subjective terms, but that doesn’t mean people can’t distinguish between right and wrong; we still have morals and proper judgment. It’s about respect for yourself, for other people, and for animals and your environment.

People who believe don’t understand people who don’t, and visa versa. We tend to fear the unknown. Also, most atheists are prone to attack the beliefs of the believer which never goes over well. Atheism is a belief that deserves no more or less merit than any other belief.

and theists don’t attack us? hahaha!!!

Life situations are complex, dude. so yeah, pick and choose “the blamed party”, eh?

Yes, of course, the Theists attack the atheists. As a non-believer I find it very amusing to watch theists and atheists arguing the toss. It’s no different than any other case of irreconcilable differences (i.e. Christian versus Islamic beliefs) borne of belief. If I believe in any one thing I am defacto saying that everyone who doesn’t believe it is ignorant. Them are fighting words!

er.. yet you cite atheists as the responsible party. hmm.. didn’t theist used burn us centuries ago? have we ever done that to theists in the name of atheism? ;)

No, I say that they are all the same, all equally guilty of digging their heels based on their beliefs.

Atheists are about as ‘bad’ as hard core religious.

Just shut the fuck up about what you believe in unless someone asks.

The Pope doesn’t think atheists are bad, just follow your conscience, in reality, isn’t that what a true christian strives for, to be a kind conscientious person?

Read your previous statements in this thread, and you’ll see why the stereotype of the asshole atheist exists. “you theists”, referring to atheists as “us”. It’s always a them vs. us mentality that fucks the reputation up, regardless of who’s right.

If you are a-theist then I believe that is good. Get away from religions and don’t subscribe to a god. You are a human on a planet and you are free to make your own life. However, I think it’s not good to be an Atheist. Because then you are putting this one human into a group and rejecting anyone else who doesn’t subscribe to your group. All this does is encourage separation and hurt. Calling yourself an Atheist I think is just as bad as calling yourself a Christian. Our true nature is self.
I am just me. A person. I believe whatever I want to believe that makes me feel like i’m being a good person on this planet and in this world. My god is the energy around us and my religion is the natural order of things, which is constantly changing. I was told the other day that “It doesn’t matter what you believe, as long as you believe something”.

It is also odd that most atheists seem to believe that being a theist means you’re christian and believe a majority of the bible.

Being a christian means you’re a theist. Being a theist does not mean you are a christian.

Because it’s an excuse for being an asshole, whereas humans with no humanity don’t have one.

hmm.. so this is why theists are always nice and charitable?
