Why our beautiful human interaction is dying?

Matheus Pinheiro (@Mattgood) 7 years, 11 months ago

What is wrong with the world, guys? It is starting to be impossible to talk to people nowadays if you do not have an smartphone. People do not talk anymore and when they talk is something related with internet. Kids with tablets, adults go on a date and all they do is to look at a screen. But why are people so fascinated about screens? What do they have that a person in front of you doesn’t have?

Life is too short to be looking at a screen eight hours a day instead of knowing people who can influence your life for real.

It’s the next step in human evolution – integration with technology and A.I.

@mattgood, Matheus, I wouldn’t have access to thoughtful people like yourself without the WWW. I agree it isn’t an equal substitution for face to face intimacy, but it sure beats nothing. I have met an abundance of kind, dear, thoughtful people online. I am personally thankful for this modern phenomena, and the pleasure to make your acquaintance, all be it, in the web.

@chodebalm, but to make a real big step we should learn how to deal with all that technology and do not let our integration with it destroy the integration we have with ourselves.

People are not very conscious of their actions, they are driven mainly by hormones and other chemicals in the human body. They are not truly interested in answering questions like, “Could my life be better than this?”, “Is this good for me?” “Do i even want what’s good for me?”. They just go with the flow, because it’s easy. Most of the time we are semiconscious of what the fuck we are doing.
It may be integration with technology, but the question is if it’s conscious, well understood integration, or just a blind movement into unknown, i mean this at a personal level.

@dany, some people “like” to forget they have a mind to see things from another perspective. Beyond chemicals and hormones…

@mattgood, For sure, I agree, it seems like I’m on here all the time, but I am often off interacting with people, I just come back to the screen fairly regularly. We need that balance, not to lose touch with our physical lives due to constant cyber living, we will gradually lose skills that way.

You just gave me an idea for a story; the human race becomes an endangered species, not by financial collapse, war, a giant asteroid, quantum singularity, virus, zombie virus or extreme weather events, but because we lose our ability to attract and court a mate :p

daniel (24) (@dany) 7 years, 11 months ago ago

@mattgood, yes,because it’s easier

@trek79, actually i think attracting a mate would not be that hard.remember, uneducated people reproduce a whole lot more than educated people. I think the problem would be to find something more than sex. There is no mistery that funny cats on facebook and talking hours on the phone,or texting doesn’t raise your IQ or your understanding of the world.

Idiocracy(the movie) may be far fetched, but from where i live, in my culture i only see people getting dumber, not smarter, incapable of expressing emotions like love,compassion.. it’s all crap.. not productive.

@mattgood, What I like to do when I see someone with their face buried in their phone is pretend that they are reading an article on HE or something similar. It makes the scene much more interesting.

Granted it’s annoying if you spend time with someone and they would rather connect to their device than you. But I just stopped hanging out with people like that. They can all hang out together, and be non interactive.

If it wasn’t for being connected to my devices I wouldn’t be able to talk to people from all over the world though, about whatever I want, whenever I want. I find that interaction pretty fucking beautiful.

Or you could just begin the conversation and trust me people will talk to you. Use it for your own good, that some people use the phone to much and be one of the cool cats that socialize ;)

Sometimes I wonder what will studies and books of the future say about our generation. Let’s say we look at history; the cliche of older generations are the World Wars, sexual liberation, drug experimentation and social activism.

I mean, just look at today. Snowden’s leaks, whistle blowers, Drone warfare, online communities, online currencies, memes, world-wide activism and specialized propaganda.

All of these are computer generated. It may look as if we are evolving, but what we really are doing is just “uploading” centuries old of human problems into the internet.

@mattgood, Why are people so fascinated with screens? You tell me. You’re staring at one right now.

Our interaction isn’t dying. Our attention has just shifted to something else.

@chodebalm true,, I laughed as I saw that picture.
The internet is a great oportunity for humans to make a even smaller, more intwined world. Look, I am here posting on a forum from the states with people from india, australia, UK and many other places. Ive I would have told people here in germany I am writing with people from all those places they would have thought I am crazy. Even our gouvernment realized the internet is important and desided to wire up glasfiber cables all over germany. What I wonder is if we havent exstinguish ourselves in 200 years hat crazy stuff you can find in the internet, allready now posts from 20 years ago are hilarious
