Wouldn't you want to live in the matrix?

Why wouldn’t I want to live in the matrix?
Please persuade me.

An agent could take over your body at any time…

Other than that you would be ignorant to the truth, bound by the rules and laws of the matrix, unknowingly a slave to the system. Similar to the Truman Show, you would live life thinking everything was taking place naturally, not knowing that someone was pulling the strings in the background. Your whole life would be a lie in sense.

I wouldn’t argue that it wouldn’t be real, because after all what is real?

There is no way to live outside of the matrix. Thinking you live outside the matrix is just another matrix. Desiring to escape is yet another manifestation. Live in whatever permeation you desire. There is little difference.

@AreNotLost exactly. I guess in the movie you couldn’t know before you actually left the matrix, but assuming you already know that the matrix exists and you knew what life was like outside of it, why leave? It doesn’t seem like a better life. More self-directed sure but not necessarily better.

I’m right there with you. Given the opportunity to do it over, I’d have to think long and hard about taking the red pill again.

On one level, what is meant by the Matrix is the idea that you are a victim of circumstance.  That you need to use sheer effort and willpower to change your circumstances.  That a bunch of random forces have conspired to put you into the situations you are in, and there’s nothing you can do to change them other than fighting and competing with other people who are trying to do the same.

Freedom from the Matrix is the realization that you have conscious control of your circumstances.  The circumstances and scenarios you are in are of benefit to you in realizing the ways in which you are unconscious.  Your externally created problems are reflections of your own internal discord, not the other way around.  When you realize this, you realize that you have the power to consciously create the circumstances and reality you want to a certain degree.

You are no longer a slave to your thoughts and emotions, no longer a disempowered and docile person incapable of creating change.  No longer afraid of other people’s minds and emotions, because you realize that this is part of the Matrix.  You realize that how you think and feel, and what you intend, determines your fate.  You become grateful for the challenges in your life, instead of resisting them, as you look upon them as tools to help you see blind-spots and weaknesses within yourself.

The idea that it’s better to be in the Matrix is just part of the Matrix itself.
